Turns out many of you love bones as well –thank you for all the lovely feedback with last week's bones-focused classes! On Monday we found a deeper connection to the ball-and-socket hip joint, and on Friday we built a relationship with the 26 bones in each foot.

This week we’ll focus on the most mobile joint in the body - the shoulder joint. Remember a joint is where two or more bones come together, and how you transfer forces between bones to stabilize or mobilize a joint greatly impacts healthy movement.

Well the shoulder joint is created by the head of your arm bone (the humerus) meeting a shallow depression on your shoulder blade (the scapula). There are discrepancies in sizes of the ball and the socket that allow our shoulders a massive range of motion but are also vulnerable to instability. Let’s give you a visual:

The shoulder joint is the golf ball (head of humerus) on a tee (glenoid fossa a.k.a socket of the shoulder joint). Notice, the articular surface is small, leaving room for things to go awry amongst all of that range of motion. If you want to dive deeper, come joint us this week and improve your understanding and function of your shoulders.
