Keep reading to learn about our new theme for May and a special Friday class–MELTⓇ  into the weekend!

This May we celebrate the Russian Doll! The way Russian Dolls work is that one doll homes another until the doll is as small as a cookie crumb. Yet, even the babiest one is painted with the same precision and detail as the biggest.

Now, Pilates teachers LOVE analogies. Put one small doll into a slightly bigger doll and those two dolls into an even bigger doll–that’s just like layering movement skills to get to an advanced exercise. Joseph Pilates placed great emphasis on mastering one exercise (e.g. a movement skill) before advancing on to the next. Ahh, analogies; so useful for learning.

Here’s an example of layering  movement skills:

Breathwork → Pelvic Stability → Upper Ab Curl → 100s

Monday, May 1st @ 12PM with Mollie

Last month's arm balances lead us to today.  Where, you ask? Control Balance. All of that shoulder knowledge and sore upper arms have paved the way for one of my favorite feel good moments in the advanced Pilates work. Control balance comes near the end of the repertoire and involves some fancy footwork while balancing on your shoulders, but don’t let this scare you! Remember that movement of pause in our Rolling Like a Ball? That’s a layer of Control Balance and you’re already there. See you in class!

Wednesday, May 3rd @ 8AM with Destinie

Is there that ONE exercise that you always have trouble with? Let Destinie know and she’ll show you the layers to master it!

Friday, May 5th @ 10AM with Destinie–MELTⓇ into the Weekend

Here for the month of May only, so don’t miss out! Experience how MELTⓇ mindfulness and breathwork before Pilates can enhance the benefits of your practice.  Today’s class starts with the MELTⓇ Rebalance sequence followed by a Pilates flow–a perfect way to destress the body and regulate your nervous system before the weekend.

*Full-length foam roller required* We highly recommend using the MELTⓇ roller, but any full-length foam roller works!
