Raise your hand if you’re loving our prop-themed July classes so far! We heard Nicole’s Theraband class activated some shoulder girdles!

Our next prop is a familiar fan favorite - the foam roller. This tool, despite its simplistic design, can help you engage with Pilates in a more nuanced way. For example, when you introduce a foam roller to an exercise like mat footwork or shoulder bridge, it immediately adds an element of instability. Your body instinctively activates more muscle groups to maintain balance, particularly your core. Not only does this deepen the intensity of the work, but it also helps improve your overall body awareness, alignment, and balance.

Plus, if you’ve taken any of our MELT MethodⓇ offerings so far, you know that foam rollers can also be utilized for self-massage and myofascial hydration, aiding in muscle recovery, muscle propagation, and nervous system relaxation.

WEEKLY CLASS THEMES

Monday, July 17th @ 12PM with Destinie:
Grab your rollers folks and let’s MELTⓇ and Pilates a case of the Mondays away! Today’s class includes a playful mix between using the roller for MELTing and for Pilates-ing. MELTing rolls tension out of the body so that our muscles work more efficiently to handle the added challenge a roller can bring to our mat work. A full-length foam roller is encouraged, but a lil’ half baby will work, too!

Wednesday, July 19th @ 8AM with Destinie:
BYOR: Bring Your Own Request!
With summer in full swing, maybe you feel like your body needs some flow to rinse out all of those white-wine spritzers. Make the request and you shall receive!

SPECIAL EVENTS

MELTing once a week is awesome, which means melting twice a week is double awesome. Stack your MELTⓇ Method fun this week by joining Destinie as she subs for Sanchez Street Studios owner Carol LeMaitre in a little SF Classical Pilates studio collaboration! The class starts at 6pm on Tuesday, July 18th.

Details:
*Full-length foam roller required.* As always, we highly recommend the MELTⓇ Method roller, but any full-length roller will work.

DEEP DIVE

The breathwork principle in Pilates isn't merely an instruction; it's an integral part of the practice that sets the foundation for movement and control. Engaging in focused breathwork before your Pilates session can be exceptionally beneficial. This pre-session routine is like a bridge, connecting your mind and body, preparing them for the focused, intentional movements to come. It's through controlled and mindful breathing that we can heighten body awareness, awaken the core muscles, and generate the power needed for Pilates exercises. Breathwork before Pilates can also aid in movement precision and promotes better circulation. Moreover, it's a fantastic stress reliever, helping to clear the mind and establish a sense of calm and focus, setting the tone for a successful Pilates session. Want to learn how to breathe better?
